Washington D.C. [USA], May 03 (ANI): White House lawyer Ty Cobb, who had been the United States administration's point person dealing with the Russian meddling investigation, has been replaced with Emmet Flood, The New York Times reported.

"Emmet Flood will be joining the White House staff to represent the president and the administration against the Russia witch hunt," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

Sanders announced that Cobb would be retiring by the end of May.

In a phone interview with the New York Times, Cobb, said he informed the president weeks ago that he wanted to retire.

Cobb had advocated for cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller who is probing the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.

His replacement, Emmet Flood was part of a team of lawyers who represented former US president Bill Clinton during his impeachment proceedings.

He is speculated to take a more aggressive approach towards Mueller. (ANI)
