Lahore [Pakistan], June 29 (ANI): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday adjourned the hearing of a treason petition against Pakistan's former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi till after the general elections.
According to the Express Tribune, a three-judge bench of the LHC was constituted to hear the petition, lodged by Advocate Azhar Siddiqui who sought booking of Nawaz and Abbasi for treason under Article 6 of the Constitution.
The petitioner claimed that Abbasi committed high treason by allegedly sharing sensitive details of the National Security Council (NSC) meeting, which took place after Nawaz's statements on the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, with the latter.
Notices were sent to both respondents to appear before the bench.
However, Abbasi maintained his innocence by denying to have divulged the details to Nawaz, saying he has utmost respect for the oath and would never violate it, the report said.
"I read on the media that summons had been sent for me, however, I received none. I did not disclose details of the NSC, I have the utmost respect for the oath and would never violate it," Abbasi said in the courtroom who was present there on grounds for his disqualification hearing.
According to the report, Abbasi then filed a plea in court requesting it to adjourn the case until after the general elections which are scheduled to take place on July 25. (ANI)

"US will never risk sending its navy to open up Strait of Hormuz”

Sibal argued that the US is unlikely to risk a naval operation to forcibly "reopen" the Strait of Hormuz as the deep-water channel necessary for large vessels lies within Iranian territorial waters. Iran does not need sophisticated long-range missiles to defend this corridor; short-range missiles, torpedoes, and mines can easily sink high-value naval assets.
