Tibetan women hold anti-China protests in Dharamshala

Dharamshala [Himachal Pradesh], Mar 12 (ANI): The Tibetan Women's Association (TWA) on Monday organised a protest march against China in Dharamshala.

Tibetan women all across the globe commemorated the 59th Tibetan Women's Uprising Day.

Over one thousand Tibetan women, including Tibetan Buddhist nuns and young students, gather to participate in the protest march against the Chinese rule in Tibet.

Tibetan Women's Uprising Day is an event to remember the day when Tibetan women from all the three provinces of Tibet, for the first time stood together and protested against the brutality of Chinese forces that were occupying since 1959.

Rinchen Khando, founding president of TWA, said, "March 12 is the Women's Uprising in Tibet in 1959, so we are commemorating that day. Our demands are same as of those women, who were imprisoned and died in 1959. Their demand was free Tibet and today we demand the same."

Sonam, a nun, said, "We are going to strike for Tibet and we want freedom. We demand the release of political prisoners."

The TWA also recalled the brave Tibetan women who sacrificed their lives for the cause and paid tribute to the female martyrs to encourage the younger generation for the spirit of freedom and struggle. (ANI)
