South Korean-Japanese officials discuss North Korea's denuclearization

Seoul [South Korea], April 23 (ANI): The nuclear envoys of South Korea and Japan met on Monday to discuss the denuclearisation of North Korea ahead of the Korean summit.

Lee Do-hoon, South Korea's top nuclear negotiator, held the meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Kenji Kanasugi, in Seoul which comes before two important South Korean summits with North Korea and the United States, as reported by the Xinhua News Agency.

"There are many significant events in the near future, which are the inter-Korean summit, followed by the U.S.-North Korea summit," Lee Do-hoon said.

Lee Do-hoon further believed that such meetings would strengthen the process of denuclearisation of North Korea.

On the other hand, Japan's Kenji Kanasugi said that cooperation with countries including Japan and the United States would help paving way for the North-South Korea summit.

"Things have been moving very rapidly in recent months that make our bilateral cooperation, as well as trilateral coordination with the U.S., all the more important," he said.

This comes after the recent announcement by North Korea to suspend its nuclear missile tests which is expected to improve the bilateral relations in the Korean peninsula. Further, it shall boost South Korean internal economy as the chances of any impending Korean war seem to be evading.

Japan along with the US, China and South Korea had repeatedly called for denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

Earlier on April 21, China hailed North Korea decision to suspend its nuclear operations that is said to further promote denuclearisation of the region. (ANI)
