Sofia [Bulgaria], Oct 10 (ANI): The alleged motive behind rape and murder of Bulgarian journalist Viktoria Marinova was likely sexual assault and not because she was a journalist.
According to the Washington Post, the investigation into the case is still underway.
A suspect was detained in Germany and has been charged with rape and murder charges.
The Washington Post quoted the Bulgarian Officials as saying that the suspect, Krasimov, is from Ruse and has criminal record pertaining to theft. They further revealed that Krasimirov fled the scene and headed to Germany, where he was arrested. Initial lab results linked his DNA to samples found at the crime scene.
Marinova was raped, strangled and dumped near the Danube River.
It was speculated that the murder was linked to Marinova's report which highlighted corruption in the Bulgarian government alleging misuse of European Union funds by the government. She brought up the alleged corruption in a show she hosted last month featuring two investigating journalists who were later detained for their work on suspected fraud. (ANI)
