Jerusalem [Israel], Dec 7 (ANI): An Israeli siren smartphone app has warned that missiles were fired at southern Israel near the Gaza Strip on Thursday.
According to initial reports, "a red alert was activated" by the app in that region.
Later, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Twitter that at least two missiles were launched from the Gaza Strip, but did not reach the country.
"Following the sirens that were sounded in Hof Ashkelon & Sha'ar HaNegev regional councils in southern Israel earlier this evening, 2 launches from Gaza towards Israel landed within the Gaza Strip," IDF tweeted.

According to CNN, a fresh wave of violence has erupted following United States President Donald Trump' decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Reportedly, the leader of the Palestinian Islamist group, Hamas, has called for a new "intifada," or uprising, as protests broke out in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Bethlehem. (ANI)
