Kathmandu [Nepal], Dec 27 (ANI): The Rastriya Janata Party Nepal has accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli led government of discriminating against MPs on the basis of their ethnicity.
Rajendra Mahato, co-coordinator of RJP-N, during the first day of the third session of the Parliament, raised the issue of discrimination while referring to the delay in the release of Member of Parliament (MP) Resham Chaudhary.
"In this nation, the discrimination has reached the climax.Prachanda came here and gave his speech. It is fine. How could it be fine? Nothing is good here. This is the third session. In this session, the directly elected MPs should be present or not?" he asked.
"Elected from Kailali, the son of Tharu, Resham Chaudhary shouldn't be present in this house? Why is he not present here? He came for agitation and agitated for his rights. Who didn't take part here in agitation," asked Mahato.
"Mr Prachanda you also directed a movement for 10 years. You led the 'Jana Yuddha.' Thousands of people got martyrdom for the sake of rights. Security officials also spared their life. Who is jailed? And Resham Chaudhary, elected by people, has to be in prison. What is this? Is he to face injustice for being a Tharu? Is this democracy and is this for which we had fought?" Mahato asked further.
The third session of the Federal Parliament of Nepal began from December 26 after a gap of three months. This session of Parliament is also considered as the 'bill session.' Its major task is to amend or replace laws inconsistent with the Constitution.
As per the constitutional provision, laws inconsistent with the Constitution either need to be amended or replaced by new ones before March 5, 2019, which marks the completion of one year of the first meeting of the Federal Parliament. (ANI)
