Rawalpindi village, named after Malala

Rawalpindi [Pakistan], April 19 (ANI): A village in Rawalpindi District of Pakistan's Punjab province has been named after Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel laureate.

Social activist Baseer Ahmad took to Twitter to share this news.

"The village has been named 'Malala' near #Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi," Ahmad tweeted.

Malala Yousafzai arrived in Pakistan last month, after spending about six years abroad.

During her four-day stay in Pakistan, the advocate for women empowerment visited Swat Valley, her native place.

Malala also met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi amid strict security in view of her homecoming. Her arrival was kept secret due to security reasons.

The education activist was shot in the head in October 2012 by the Taliban gunmen for actively supporting girls' right to education.

The same year, she left Pakistan after surviving an assassination attempt by Taliban.

She was hit in the head, but survived the attack and was airlifted to the Military Hospital Peshawar.

Yousafzai was then shifted to London for further treatment.

At the age of 17, Malala was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her contributions towards promoting education for children. She shared the prize with Kailash Satyarthi, a children's rights activist.(ANI)

MEA rejects Pakistan’s statement on India-Canada deal

"We reject this statement made by Pakistan on the matter. India's credentials regarding non-proliferation are impeccable and well recognised by the global community. A country with a well-documented history of clandestine nuclear proliferation can hardly preach the virtues of export controls and proliferation risks. Such ludicrous statements are nothing more than an attempt by Pakistan to distract from its own abysmal record," he said.
