Islamabad [Pakistan], Nov 22 (ANI): Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), lauded the governments of India and Pakistan's decision to open the Kartarpur corridor for Sikh pilgrims on Thursday.
Zardari claimed that his mother, late Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, had first proposed to grant a visa-free corridor to Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib from the International border with India.
"Recognising the decision as the fulfillment of the dream of former Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto after a quarter century, he recalled that Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had first proposed to grant a visa-less free corridor to Kartarpur shrine from the Indian border. Since then Sikh devotees had been impressing upon the Government of India to accept Pakistan's proposal and facilitate Sikh pilgrims visiting their holy shrine," the media cell of PPP stated.
Quoting the Chairman, the media cell further mentioned, "Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that PPP always stood for people to people contact between the two neighbouring countries and every government led by PPP had taken significant steps to facilitate the Sikh, Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims from India and the world over, to visit their sacred places."
The Union Cabinet earlier today passed the resolution on the Kartarpur Corridor- from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district to India-Pakistan international Border - after many weeks of internal consultations and preparation within the government earlier in the day.
The resolution is a comprehensive document that contains detailed information on the plans for the celebration of 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, not just on the corridor (ANI)
