PML-N elects Shehbaz as interim party prez, Nawaz as 'Quaid for life'

Islamabad [Pakistan], Feb 27 (ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday appointed Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as its acting president while former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was named the party's "Quaid (leader) for life."

Soon after the decision was taken, ex-premier's daughter Maryam Nawaz tweeted a picture of her father and uncle embracing one another.

"We are Alhamdolilah ONE. We stand united. PML-N stands united," she tweeted.

In another tweet, Maryam Nawaz informed as to how PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, PM Abbasi and Shehbaz Sharif's proposal to name Nawaz 'Quaid for life' elicited a resounding approval.

"PMLN elects Nawaz Sharif as its QUAID for life. Raja Zafarul Haq, PM Abbasi & CM SS proposal elicited a resounding approval from CWC," she, wrote in a Twitter post.

The announcement was made in PML-N's Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting which was held in Lahore and was presided by the country's former premier Nawaz Sharif, reported the Express Tribune.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the former Prime Minister's daughter Maryam Nawaz and the Punjab Chief Minister's son Hamza Shehbaz were also present during the meeting.

Acording to Geo News, Shehbaz Sharif, who is said to be a consensus choice for the top party position, will become permanent president after intra-party elections are held within 45 days.

Last week, Pakistan's Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif from the post of PML-N party chief, saying all decisions made by him now stand null and void.(ANI)
