PM Modi to raise issues of energy security, terrorism at G20 meet

New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend G20 summit being held at Osaka in Japan from June 28 to 29 and is likely to raise the issues of energy security, countering terrorism and return of economic fugitives.

New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend G20 summit being held at Osaka in Japan from June 28 to 29 and is likely to raise the issues of energy security, countering terrorism and return of economic fugitives.
He will also attend an informal meeting of the BRICS leaders and have bilateral and multilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 14th G20 summit in Osaka, Japan from June 28 to 29. The summit will also be attended by heads of state/government of 18 Member countries, EU and other invited countries and international organisations," an External Affairs Ministry statement said.
The summit is centered around the theme "Human centered future society" and will adopt a declaration.
The statement said the issues of importance for India at G20 includes energy security, financial stability, disaster resilient infrastructure, reformed multilateralism, WTO reforms, countering terrorism, the return of economic fugitives, food security, democratisation of technologies and portable social security schemes.
During the summit, the world leaders will discuss free trade and economic growth, global economy including taxation, finance, digital economy, and artificial intelligence, inclusive and sustainable world.
They will also discuss energy and environment, Society 5.0, quality infrastructure, global health, aging, climate change, and marine plastic waste.
Established in 1999, the G20 was elevated from a forum of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to that of heads of the state or the government in 2008 to effectively respond to the global financial crisis of 2008.
The statement said that the G20 has emerged as the premier global forum for international economic cooperation. The members represent around 85 per cent of global gross domestic product, over 75 per cent of global trade and two-thirds of the world's population.
India has participated in all the G20 summits held so far and will host the summit in 2022 for the first time. India, Russia, and China will hold a trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G-20Summit.
Besides India and the host Japan, other participants are the US, UK, European Union, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Russia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Korea, South Africa, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. (ANI)
