PM Modi calls for strengthening Indo-Seychelles defence relations

New Delhi [India], June 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Danny Faure on Monday called for strengthening bilateral defence relations between the two countries.

New Delhi [India], June 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Danny Faure on Monday called for strengthening bilateral defence relations between the two countries.
While delivering a joint statement, Prime Minister Modi called for promoting geo-strategic relations as he recognised Seychelles as the chief strategic partner of India.
He further pointed out, "India will provide a 100 million dollar credit line to Seychelles to help it buying defence-related equipment."
India has also gifted an aircraft to Seychelles, which will be displayed at the latter's National Day.
Further, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding for sharing wide shipping data.
Prime Minister Modi also pointed out key developments undertaken by Seychelles, including its highest Human Development Index in Africa and being able to emerge as a leader of blue economy.
He then called for developing a secure maritime environment in a sustainable manner to ensure the independence of the citizens of both countries.
"It is our shared responsibility to ensure collaborative maritime security. We have committed ourselves to continue strengthening our bilateral relations to work for the development of blue economy," Prime Minister Modi added.
Earlier in the day, President Faure said his presence in India is to take the relationship between the two countries to "newer heights".
President Faure's six-day visit to India is expected to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation with Seychelles. (ANI)
