People in UK have right to protest: British High Commission
New Delhi [India], Oct 10 (ANI): The British High Commission in India on Wednesday said that people in the United Kingdom have a right to protest and to demonstrate their views, provided they act within the law. The statement comes in the wake of pro-Khalistan demonstrations.

New Delhi [India], Oct 10 (ANI): The British High Commission in India on Wednesday said that people in the United Kingdom have a right to protest and to demonstrate their views, provided they act within the law. The statement comes in the wake of pro-Khalistan demonstrations.
"Should a protest contravene the law, the police have comprehensive powers to deal with activities that spread hate or deliberately raise tensions through violence or public disorder. This does not negate the right to peaceful protest. The use of these powers and the management of demonstrations are an operational matter for the police," the High Commission said.
Commenting on the recent searches in West Midlands in connection with allegations of terrorist and fraud offences in the UK relating to activity in India, the Commission said this is a police matter and the investigation is ongoing.
Detectives searched a number of properties on September 18 as part of a West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU) investigation based on intelligence gathered over a period of time. The warrants were scrutinised and issued by the courts. (ANI)
