Paul Ryan to retire at end of 2018

Washington DC [United States], Apr 11 (ANI): Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Paul Ryan will retire from Congress at the end of this year.

Ryan told reporters on Capitol Hill, "You realize something when you take this job. It's a big job with a lot riding on you ... but you also know this is not a job that does not last forever. ... You realize you hold the office for just a small part of our history. So you better make the most of it," CNN reported.

Walking down the memory lane, Ryan noted that he took the job "reluctantly" in 2015, adding that he had no "regrets."

The Wisconsin Republican, who has over two years of experience being a House speaker, underscored that he wanted to spend some time with his kids.

"If I am here for one more term my kids will only have ever known me as a weekend dad. I just can't let that happen. So I will be setting new priorities in my life," Ryan said.

Trump heaped praises on the speaker after his announcement.

"Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question. We are with you Paul!" Trump wrote in a Twitter post.
