Peshawar [Pakistan], June 14 (ANI): The alleged murderer of prominent Sikh rights activist Charanjit Singh was arrested in Peshawar on Thursday.
The alleged killer, identified as Sheheryar Sultan, confessed to the killing.
The 42-year-old Singh, an inter-faith harmony advocate, was killed in broad daylight on May 29. A lone gunman barged into his grocery store and shot him, reported the Express Tribune.
Originally settled in Kurram Agency, Singh had shifted to Peshawar with his family in the early 1970s due to better business prospects, the report said.
He was a highly respectable figure in the region.
Investigations are underway and a team has been formed to find Sheharyar's accomplices.
On May 30, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal tweeted to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, saying, "Being a minority community, the Sikhs have always been facing discrimination in Pakistan. I request the Union External Affair Minister Sushma Swaraj ji to take up the issue with her Pakistan counterpart to ensure safety and security of the Sikhs in Pakistan."

Taking note of the tweet, Swaraj had replied saying, "Sukhbir ji : I fully share your concern. I have already asked for a report from our High Commissioner in Islamabad. I will revert on this."(ANI)
