Pak will suffer if judges succumb to influence: Bilawal Bhutto

Islamabad [Pakistan], Jan 21 (ANI): Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto on Sunday took a jibe at the judiciary in Pakistan saying that the country will continue to suffer if the judges succumb to political pressure.

Bilawal had posted a tweet saying that the law reforms concerning the judiciary should have been already formulated, but it was not being done for the last three years, leading to its decline, the Express Tribune reported.

"Law Reforms Commission headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan and has all provincial Chief Justices as members. Under the Rules, it has to meet 4 times a year. They haven't met since 2015. While judges continue to play politician and do all jobs but theirs - justice suffers in Pakistan ultimately," he posted on the micro-blogging site.

Bilawal is not the first Pakistani politician to raise the issue on the country's judiciary independence from external influences.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif criticised the country's judiciary for colluding with vested interests.

He blamed the country's highest court for his removal from the office and stated that the evidence found against him in the Panama Paper leaks case was "false and imaginary".

However, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar said on Saturday that the Supreme Court of Pakistan was an "independent institution", which is completely free from external influences and that the citizens should be "extremely proud" at it. (ANI)
