Pak, US relations in a state of cold peace

Islamabad [Pakistan], Jan. 20 (ANI): The relations between Pakistan and the United States are in a state of cold peace, due to the steps taken by the latter, according to Pakistan Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir.

The cooperation between the two countries had increased in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. The U.S. had announced 'War on Terror' to capture and eliminate terrorists such as Osama bin Laden. He was ultimately killed in Abbottabad, a garrison town in Pakistan by a US military special operations unit in 2011.

However, in a Voice of America interview, Dastgir said recent harsh comments from US President Donald Trump and have contributed to a decline in the relationship, the Express Tribune reported.

Earlier in the month, the White House suspended military aid to Pakistan after Trump made a scathing remark against the latter, accusing it of lying and deceiving while receiving billions in aid.

"The kind of language President Trump has been using, reduces the freedom of action of Pakistan government. The more stressful it gets, the lower the cooperation," Dastgir added. (ANI)
