Pak polls: Nearly 60 parties ditch women candidates

Islamabad [Pakistan], July 7 (ANI): As many as 59 political parties in Pakistan have not issued general seat tickets to any women for contesting the upcoming general elections slated to take place on July 25.

Islamabad [Pakistan], July 7 (ANI): As many as 59 political parties in Pakistan have not issued general seat tickets to any women for contesting the upcoming general elections slated to take place on July 25.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday issued the details of political parties contesting the forthcoming elections and the percentage of tickets allocated to women candidates, reported Geo TV.
However 48 parties have issued tickets to a total of 304 women in total, the report quoted the ECP, as saying.
Out of the parties who did field women candidates, four did not meet the requirement of allocating five percent of the tickets to women.
According to the report, these parties include Allah Akbar Tehreek, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Samiul Haq (JUI-S), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Nazriati (PTI Ideological), and Pasban Pakistan.
Meanwhile, at 43, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) surfaced as the party which allocated the highest percentage of its total tickets to women when compared to its peers. (ANI)
