Pak EC accepts Imran's apology in contempt of court case

Islamabad [Pakistan], October 26 (ANI): The Election Commission on Thursday accepted the written apology of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and ended the contempt of court proceedings against him.

According to the Dawn, the PTI chief appeared before the commission, nearly two weeks after his non-bailable arrest warrants were issued.

Khan was accompanied by PTI counsel Babar Awan, Secretary General Jahangir Tareen, leaders Shafqat Mehmood and Naeemul Haque at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Earlier this month, the Commission ordered that Imran be arrested and brought to the next hearing of the case filed by PTI dissident and one of the party's founding members Akbar S Babar on October 26.

Babar was also present during the hearing today.

During the hearing, a five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza directed the PTI chief's lawyer to submit a written apology over his remarks accusing the ECP of being biased in the foreign funding case. (ANI)

MEA rejects Pakistan’s statement on India-Canada deal

"We reject this statement made by Pakistan on the matter. India's credentials regarding non-proliferation are impeccable and well recognised by the global community. A country with a well-documented history of clandestine nuclear proliferation can hardly preach the virtues of export controls and proliferation risks. Such ludicrous statements are nothing more than an attempt by Pakistan to distract from its own abysmal record," he said.
