New Zealand to hold national remembrance service for Christchurch terror attack victims

Christchurch [New Zealand], Mar 24 (ANI): Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Sunday announced that her country will hold a national remembrance service for the victims of Christchurch shootings next Friday (March 29).  
“The national remembrance service provides an opportunity for Cantabrians (Christchurch-area residents), New Zealanders and people all around the world to come together as one to honour the victims of the terrorist attack,” Ardern was quoted as saying by Express Tribune.
“In the week since the unprecedented terror attack, there has been an outpouring of grief and love in our country. The service will be a chance to once again show that New Zealanders are compassionate, inclusive and diverse and that we will protect those values,” the Prime Minister said.
The service is scheduled to take place in Christchurch at 10 am (local time), exactly two weeks after a lone shooter, 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant, influenced by the white supremacist ideology, killed 50 people and injured several others during gunfire opened at the Linwood and Al Noor mosque in Christchurch on March 15. The victims were attending the weekly Friday prayers at the two mosques.
The service will be held at Hagley Park in Christchurch, located across the street from the Al Noor Mosque where the terror attack took place.
Improving the security situation in the country, New Zealand, last week, implemented a ban on the sale of assault rifles and semi-automatics across the country to prevent more acts of terror and mass shootings anytime in future.   
At least five Indians, including three from Gujarat, were killed in the terror attack.(ANI)
