Nepal's new Ambassador to India, Nilambar Acharya, taking oath in Kathmandu on Sunday

Kathmandu [Nepal], Feb 3 (ANI): Nepal's newly appointed Ambassador to India, Nilambar Acharya, took oath here at the Presidential Palace on Sunday.
"Today in a function held in Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas, Honorable President Shreemati Bidhya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy of newly appointed ambassador to Friendly neighbour Republic of India, Mr Nilambar Acharya," an official statement outlined.
He was recommended to the post after the cabinet meeting held here on December 9 last year.
Acharya, a political analyst and senior advocate, has previously served as a minister in the 1990's interim government and was also a part of the Elite People's Group which was formed by the India-Nepal government to review previously signed treaty between two nations.
The post had been vacant ever since October 2017, when the then-Ambassador to India, Deep Kumar Upadhyay stepped down from the post to contest elections in Nepal.
Before Acharya, the former Chief Election Commissioner of Nepal, Nilkantha Upreti had been recommended to the post only to be rejected due to a provision in the newly adopted constitution of Nepal. The constitution bars former Chief of Election Commission from being appointed as an envoy to any nation. (ANI)
