Nepal to hold last phase of marathon elections on Thursday

Kathmandu [Nepal], December 07 (ANI): Nepal is holding the final round of parliamentary and provincial elections on Thursday which marks the end of the marathon elections.

The election marks the implementation of the constitution and gives hope to end the political instability.

"After a long time, we are getting through this kind of electoral process. However, I am not sure about how this federal system is going to work in the future but I am hopeful that we will see positive results. So I am very excited about it," Pankaj Bajracharya, a voter from Kathmandu, told ANI after exercising his franchise.

It is the first time that Nepal is voting to choose a provincial council which only got enlisted in the Constitution promulgated late in 2015.

The same Constitution has the deadline of January, 2018 till when Nepal should hold the three-tier elections.

Nepal in May held the first round of elections for the local bodies followed by second and third in September and the first round of Parliamentary and the Provincial elections were held in November.

Sumi Bajracharya, who has voted for six times till now in various elections in Nepal, said, "The ones elected after casting the vote will be doing something for Nepal, the country as a whole. Because we have got many problems. So, we would be expecting those kinds of problems like corruptions, the pollutions would be solved and many other things."

Thursday's election has voter population of about 12 million including the restive southern plain which witnessed marathon protest after the promulgation of the Constitution in 2015.

With the demands of disgruntled parties still to be addressed, the Madhesh-based parties gave a nod to the government and participated in the local polls of September.

Nepal's Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba also cast his vote from Dadeldhura district and returned to Kathmandu via Helicopter.

The procedures to start the vote counting will start afterwards. The final results of the election are expected to be out by December 25. (ANI)
