Nepal plane crash: Death toll rises to 49

Kathmandu [Nepal], Mar 12 (ANI): The death toll in US-Bangla airline's plane crash in Nepal's only International Airport, the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), has risen to 49, the release from Civil Aviation Authority Nepal stated.

Nepal plane crash: Death toll rises to 49

Kathmandu [Nepal], Mar 12 (ANI): The death toll in US-Bangla airline's plane crash in Nepal's only International Airport, the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), has risen to 49, the release from Civil Aviation Authority Nepal stated.

Other 21 passengers out of total 71 (Including crew member) in the Bombardier Q400 are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Nepal's capital Kathmandu.

The plane, which was en route to Kathmandu from Dhaka, had 33 Nepali, 32 Bangladeshi, one Chinese and one Maldivian passenger on board.

The plane, which evaded the runway, came down tearing the fence dived on the ground and burst into flames dowsing around 500 meters away from the runway, an airport official told ANI seeking anonymity.

"When we arrived here the plane had already crashed and was burning. The rescuers had already started the rescue and search operation," Nabin Gupta, Health Assistant of a private hospital in Kathmandu stationed at TIA, told ANI.

The ill-fated plane had the Nepali passengers, who had gone to Bangladesh to participate in a summit of tour and travels operator.

Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other politicos rushed to the spot and conveyed their condolence.

The reason behind the crash of the 17-year old aircraft is yet to be established, but the rescuers and other aviation staffs have recovered the black box of the aircraft. (ANI)
