Kathmandu [Nepal], Mar 21 (ANI): The Government of Nepal has released additional Rupees 840 Million to the Department of Rail to purchase trains from India.
Releasing a cabinet decision of March 18, Nepal's Ministry of Communication and Information Technology made it clear that the amount was released as per G to G (Government to Government) process.
The Indian company Konkan Railway Corporation Limited is selected as the company from where Nepal will buy Diesel Electrified Model (DEMU) train, the cabinet decision stated.
The Government had previously released Rupees 500 million for the purchase of the rail. But the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport have sent a proposal to the cabinet claiming it to be insufficient.
The rail’s each set to be bought will have five cars each and the latest technology DEMU can travel up to three hundred kilometres and each set has the capacity to host one thousand two hundred to one thousand three hundred passengers.
The two set of DEMU trains will operate in Janakpur-Jaynagar sector reviving the only trans-national railway between Nepal and India. (ANI)
