Montreal (Canada), Nov 29 (ANI): A global symposium held here underscored the need for establishing "a stronger aviation security" and "a risk-based approach" to deal with emerging challenges in the field of aviation security.
A delegation of India's Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) led by its Director General Rajesh Ranjan attended the Global Aviation Security Symposium (AVSEC 2018) organised by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), headquartered at Montreal, Canada.
The two-day long symposium, the theme of which was 'The Need To Know,' was held on November 27-28 and discussed various subjects like "effective risk awareness, application of enhanced security measures, need for the establishment of a stronger aviation security and the need for a risk-based approach to aviation security."
Ranjan, Director General CISF, in his deliberations, highlighted the unique expertise of his force in protecting critical infrastructure including those in aviation sector from the perspective of both anti-hijacking and anti-terror threat, which would benefit other regional contracting states and encourage them to adopt similar enabling systems.
GASeP or Global Aviation Security Plan, a future aviation security policy and programme framework, introduced by ICAO was also discussed during the symposium. The panelists highlighted the need for working together with a shared common goal of enhancing aviation security worldwide by the stakeholders and aviation institutions like ICAO.
CISF delegation, which comprised among others MA Ganapathy, Additional Director General, Airport Sector and Ajay Kumar, AIG (APS), also met Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, President of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and Alok Shekhar, representative of India at the ICAO. (ANI)
