NAB court orders Sharif's indictment on Oct. 2

Islamabad [Pakistan], Sept 26 (ANI): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court on Tuesday ordered that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will be indicted on October 2.

The court which was hearing corruption cases against Sharif's family members, also issued bailable arrest warrants for his three children and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar Awan.

The court issued the warrants against a surety of Rs 1 million each for Maryam, Hassan, Hussain and Capt Safdar and asked them to appear on October 2, The Express Tribune reported.

The former premier's two sons were summoned before the court today for hearing of references filed by the NAB but they were unable to appear as they are still in London tending to their mother, who is undergoing cancer treatment.

Earlier, Sharif appeared before the court in connection with the three corruption-related references and was allowed to leave after a few minutes.

He was accompanied by several Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, including federal ministers.

Sharif has now left for Punjab House in Islamabad, where he is expected to chair a meeting of senior PML-N officials later in the day.

Sharif returned back to Pakistan on Monday after he had gone to London about a month ago on account of his wife's Kulsoom Nawaz's treatment.

On July 28, a five-judge larger bench of the Supreme Court, while disqualifying Sharif under Article 62(1) (f) of the Constitution had asked the NAB to file four references in the Rawalpindi accountability court within six weeks on the basis of the material collected and referred to by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) as well as that already available with the Federal Investigation Agency and the NAB. "The countries of the region must clarify their stance regarding the aggressors against our dear homeland and the killers of our people. I recommend that they shut down those bases as soon as possible; for they must surely have realized by now that America's claim of establishing security and peace has been nothing but a lie," he said.
