NAB court defers Sharif's indictment till October 9

Islamabad [Pakistan], Oct.2 (ANI): Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's indictment on charges of corruption has been deferred by a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court till October 9.

The accountability court, which is hearing three corruption references against former Sharif and his family, also issued non-bailable arrest warrants against his children and son-in-law.

Sharif, his children - Hussain, Hassan, and Maryam - and her husband Captain Safdar are expected to appear in court on October 9 and be indicted in the corruption cases.

Geo News quoted Sharif's lawyer Mohsin Ranjha as saying that the former premier's indictment has been deferred to Ocotber 9, the next date of hearing and the court has been assured that Maryam Nawaz and her husband Capt (retd) MNA Safdar will appear in court in the next hearing.

Sharif accompanied by his political aide, Senator Asif Kirmani arrived at the court amid tight Rangers deployment.

According to reports, media representatives, as well as supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and members of the government, were barred from entering the judicial complex.

On July 28, a five-judge larger bench of the Supreme Court, while disqualifying Sharif under Article 62(1) (f) of the Constitution had asked the NAB to file four references in the Rawalpindi accountability court within six weeks on the basis of the material collected and referred to by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) as well as that already available with the Federal Investigation Agency and the NAB.
