N Korean Olympic athletes reach South Korea

Yangyang [South Korea], Feb 01 (ANI): North Korean Olympic athletes on Thursday reached South Korea for the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Games.

According to Yonhap news agency, a delegation of 32, including 10 athletes, arrived at Yangyang International Airport on a South Korean chartered plane.

The North Korean delegation was led by its Vice Sports Minister Won Kil-u.

Talking to the media at the airport, Won said, "I send regards from our people of the North to the people in the South".

Earlier this month, North and South Korea agreed to field a joint women's ice hockey team and march together under a unified Korea flag at the opening ceremony the Winter Olympics.

The two sides had met at the border village of Panmunjom, located along the heavily guarded Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) for working-level talks.

The Winter Olympics is scheduled to take place at South Korea's Pyeongchang from February 9-25.

The development between the two countries has brought some ease into their strained relations. (ANI)
