Kachin [Myanmar], May 4 (ANI): Not long after Myanmar army carried out targeted killings of Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine state, it has now been accused of committing atrocities against Christians in the northernmost state of the country, Kachin.

According to Anadolu Agency, a report by United Nations has found that more than 5,000 civilians have been displaced in the last three weeks following clashed between military and Kachin Independence Army (KIA), a rebel group.

The clashed initially broke out in 2011, the recent violence hints at another case of ethnic cleansing.

A UN human rights expert earlier raised concern over the sharp increase in violence in the state in the recent past, while the world focused on Rakhine.

Yanghee Lee, the UN's special rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar reported that recent aerial bombing by the military had killed innocent civilians and displaced many in the villages.

There were also reports that aid has been cut off by the military, leaving many stranded in the villages without food water.

While most that have fled are stuck at the border in attempts to cross over to China, 2,000 are stranded in the forests.

Last year, the military violence in Rakhine drove around 700,000 Rohingya into neighbouring Bangladesh to escape killings. (ANI)
