Seoul [South Korea], June 24 (ANI): South Korean President Moon Jae-In, who is set to return from Russia after wrapping up his maiden three-day visit, sought his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin's support for denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.
Moon and his wife Kim Jong-sook departed for Seoul on Sunday after they rooted for the South Korean national soccer team, which lost to Mexico 2-1 in the teams' Group F match at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
During the visit, the two leaders further highlighted the need to deepen their bilateral relations.
They also agreed to work to launch negotiations for a free trade agreement between their countries.
"To achieve the goal of USD 30 billion in trade and 1 million in the number of visitors between the two countries by 2020, the two leaders agreed to work for practical cooperation that can actually benefit the people of the two countries," read a statement released by Moon's office at Cheong Wae De.
The two leaders further discussed the feasibility of launching cross-border energy projects. Both sides also signed a number of Memoranda of Understanding to expand cooperation in energy, industry, and investment.
As part of the visit, Moon delivered an unprecedented speech at the lower house of the Russian parliament, Duma in which he termed their bilateral relations as the "cornerstone of peace and prosperity". (ANI)
