Mexico wall must for DACA approval: Trump

Washington [U.S.A.] Jan 10 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday said Mexico wall is a must for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) approval.

In a tweet, Trump said, "As I made very clear today, our country needs the security of the Wall on the Southern Border, which must be part of any DACA approval."

His tweet came after he met with Bipartisan Members of the Senate on Immigration. Trump convened a bipartisan group of more than two dozen members of the House and Senate in the Roosevelt Room to discuss a possible resolution for the DACA-the Obama-era protections for 700,000 young immigrants that Trump has said will end in March without congressional action.

The president let the media cameras roll as he negotiated a DACA deal with Congress.

The US media termed the meeting as bizarre and confusing.

"By the time the president finally kicked reporters out of the meeting, he had said yes to everyone while clarifying virtually nothing. And what was undeniably a victory for government transparency had turned into another frustrating experience for Republicans, who repeatedly implored Trump to tell them exactly what he would accept in a DACA bill," The Atlantic reported.

Building a wall on the US-Mexico border is one of Trump's poll promises.

During the presidential campaign in 2016, Trump had said, "I will build a great, great wall on our Southern border and I'll have Mexico pay for that wall."

Mexico has denied paying for the wall.

On Monday, Trump admitted that he did not need a wall on the entire 2,000 miles of the southern border, citing "violent rivers," "nature," and "mountains," that already secure it.

Trump noted that in 2006, the Congress passed a bill for a border fence, although he said it was never completed.

When reporters asked Trump if he would commit to passing DACA amnesty without wall funding, he said that the wall was needed.

"You need the wall. It's wonderful, I would love not to build the wall, but we need the wall," Breitbart News quoted Trump as saying. (ANI)
