Iranian Embassy in Yemen attacked amid rebel fighting

Sanaa [Yemen], Dec 4 (ANI): The Iranian embassy in Yemen was set ablaze after a mortar shell triggered the fire at the premises amid the rebel fighting on Monday, the Anadolu Agency quoted sources, as saying.

Reportedly, clouds of smoke could be seen coming from the building amid the clashes between Houthi rebels and loyalists of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

However, it could not be figured out which party was behind the attack on the Iranian embassy.

Both Saleh forces and the Houthi rebels are battling to capture the capital city.

The loyalists of Saleh last week had proposed for the talks with the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis to end the three-year conflict in Yemen.

The fighting has claimed more than 10,000 lives since then.

The United Nations has described the Yemen conflict as the world's worst humanitarian crisis. (ANI)

Iran does not need sophisticated long-range missiles to defend this corridor; short-range missiles, torpedoes, and mines can easily sink high-value naval assets.
