India, Nepal review progress of post-earthquake reconstruction projects

Officials from India and Nepal reviewing the progress of post-earthquake reconstruction of projects in various sectors in Kathmandu on March 11.

Kathmandu [Nepal], Mar 12 (ANI): Officials from India and Nepal have reviewed the progress of post-earthquake reconstruction of projects in housing, education, health and cultural heritage sectors.
The India-Nepal Joint Project Monitoring Committee (JPMC) meeting was held in Kathmandu on Monday. India is supporting the reconstruction work in these sectors with USD 250 million grant.
The meeting was chaired by Arjun Kumar Karki, Secretary, National Reconstruction Authority, Government of Nepal. The Indian delegation was led by Sudhakar Dalela, Joint Secretary (North), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, according to a statement by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the socio-technical facilitation consultants in Gorkha and Nuwakot districts respectively, gave a presentation on the progress of reconstruction as well as facilitation being extended to the Indian government supported housing beneficiaries in the two districts, the statement said.
Both sides agreed that through their combined efforts, considerable progress has been made in the housing sector since the signing of sector-specific MoU.
Discussions were also held on the other three sectors namely education, health and cultural heritage. The two sides agreed to take steps to expedite progress in all sectors, it added.
Nepal conveyed its appreciation to the Indian government for its support for the post-earthquake reconstruction projects in the country. Both sides agreed to work together to expedite progress in the implementation of reconstruction projects, the statement further said.
The next JPMC meeting would be held on a mutually convenient date. (ANI)
