India, Jordan to cooperate on counter-terrorism

New Delhi [India], March 01 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday acknowledged that terrorism is a "great concern" for both India and Jordan, assuring that the two countries will cooperate on combating it.

New Delhi [India], March 01 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday acknowledged that terrorism is a "great concern" for both India and Jordan, assuring that the two countries will cooperate on combating it.

"Terrorism is a matter of great concern for India and Jordan. The Jordanian side has a lot of experience in this matter and both the countries are resolved to cooperate on this issue," Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs T.S. Tirumurti said in a media briefing on the visit of the King of Jordan Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein to India.

"The leaders had a synergy of views on counter-terrorism and other related issues," Tirumurti added.

Earlier in the day, India and Jordan inked 12 agreements in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The two countries exchanged agreements in the areas of defence and culture.

The Memorandum of Understandings signed between India and Jordan include Health and Medicine sector.

An MoU was also inked between Prasar Bharati and Jordan Media. Furthermore, the two countries have signed MoUs for mining and beneficiation of Rock Phosphate and Muriate of Phosphate (MOP) and other important raw materials.

King Abdullah had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House in the national capital.

King Abdullah and Prime Minister Modi also delivered speeches on 'Islamic Heritage: Promoting Understanding and Moderation', organised by India Islamic Centre at the Vigyan Bhawan here.

The Jordanian King also received a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and was received by President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Modi upon his arrival. He also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj met with King Abdullah II of Jordan and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

King Abdullah is on a three-day visit to India, having arrived on Tuesday.(ANI)
