India, Canada figured out diversity as source of strength: Trudeau

New Delhi [India], Feb 22 (ANI): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday said that India and Canada are the two places in the world that have figured out diversity must be a source of strength and never a source of division.

Speaking at the reception dinner at Canadian High Commission here, Trudeau said, "Learning from neighbours who are different from us, both India and Canada can do that."

The Canadian Prime Minister, who is on a state visit to India, said it's an absolute pleasure for him to be here in India.

"People of India are kind, genuine and open. They are proud of their rich culture and strong diversity. I have no doubt that this experience will stay with my family for the rest of their lives," Trudeau said.

He further noted that India and Canada are bound by the values that two countries share.

"Values like kindness, openness, generosity and deep respect for the democratic tradition," he said.

"Canadian entrepreneurs are turning towards India to grow their businesses and Indian students choose our universities to do their studies. Indians, Indian-Canadians are building our country brick by brick and community by community," he added.

Sharing his experiences about his trip so far, Trudeau said this trip for him, on a personal level, has been about discovering India, sharing it, learning about it and sharing it with his kids.

"So that I can also see it through their eyes, through the eyes of my extraordinary wife Sophie Trudeau, who knows so much more about this place than just about anywhere else," he said.

"Everyday people to people ties here are ambassadors of Canada-India relationship," he added. (ANI)

MEA rejects Pakistan’s statement on India-Canada deal

"We reject this statement made by Pakistan on the matter. India's credentials regarding non-proliferation are impeccable and well recognised by the global community. A country with a well-documented history of clandestine nuclear proliferation can hardly preach the virtues of export controls and proliferation risks. Such ludicrous statements are nothing more than an attempt by Pakistan to distract from its own abysmal record," he said.
