Islamabad [Pakistan], Apr 24 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday referred to Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as ‘Sahiba’, meaning 'Madam' or 'Miss' in Urdu, during an address in South Waziristan.
“I came into power through struggle and hard work unlike Bilawal ‘Sahiba’ who, using the will of her mother became the head of a political party,” the Express Tribune quoted the Pakistani leader as saying.
He has since been criticised for his sexist remark, with the Twitterverse not holding back in outlining the misogyny.
"Misogynist and so utterly condemnable statement by pm against @BBhuttoZardari calling him Sahiba. The PM's in dire need of training into gender and conflict sensitive communication which I can offer him to save the image of the country from his tongue!" Twitter user Jamshed Iqbal wrote.
"Very, very small. Calling Bilawal Bhutto Sahiba (madam) doesn’t belittle him at all. It just demonstrates Imran Khan’s lowness, indecency, and sexism. An insult to the office of the PM," journalist Gul Bukhari tweeted.
"#PrimeMinisterImranKhan's sexist remarks about @BBhuttoZardari are extremely poor in taste and quite unbecoming of a Prime Minister. This is wrong on so many levels," Ali Salman Alvi, a columnist opined on Twitter. (ANI)
