New Delhi [India], March 12 (ANI): Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mauritius has yielded significant outcomes, with India and Mauritius elevating their partnership to a strategic level. This development marks a first for India with any nation in its neighborhood.
Addressing the special briefing on Wednesday, Misri said, "This elevates our partnership to a level of strategic partnership. It is the first such partnership India has concluded with any nation in its neighbourhood."
Misri announced that eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering various aspects of bilateral cooperation were exchanged during the visit. Additionally, PM Modi pledged India's support for the construction of a new Parliament building in Mauritius.
"There have been several outcomes during this short but very substantive visit, as I said. There were two announcements, three launches or inaugurations, one handover, and the exchange of as many as eight MOUs. The PM also announced India's support towards construction of a new Parliament building in Mauritius," said the Foreign Secretary
The visit included formal delegation-level talks between PM Modi and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, focusing on development partnership initiatives, trade, and economic ties. The two nations adopted a joint vision for an enhanced strategic partnership, reflecting their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
""Formal delegation-level talks were held between PM Modi and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, where they took stock in detail of development partnership initiatives, trade and economic ties. They have adopted a joint vision for an enhanced strategic partnership," said Misri.
PM Modi departed for India on Wednesday, concluding his two-day visit.
Earlier, PM Modi visited the sacred Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin) in Mauritius, where he offered prayers and immersed the holy water from the Triveni Sangam at the sacred site.
Ganga Talao is a sacred lake for the Hindus of Mauritius, CNN noted in a report.
"Prime Minister's gesture of bringing the holy water from the revered Mahakumbh Mela to Ganga Talao signifies not only the spiritual unity between the two nations but also their commitment to preserve and nurture the rich traditions that form the foundation of their shared cultural ties," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
Notably, this year, people witnessed Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. It was concluded on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri, marking a momentous event filled with spiritual unity, divine energy, and supernatural significance. (ANI)
