Dreams to come true for Nepali Student with Indian scholarships

Kathmandu [Nepal], Mar 9 (ANI): The Government of India has started Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme for meritorious Nepali students to mark the completion of half century Indo-Nepal Economic Cooperation in 2002.

Dreams to come true for Nepali Student with Indian scholarships

Kathmandu [Nepal], Mar 9 (ANI): The Government of India has started Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme for meritorious Nepali students to mark the completion of half century Indo-Nepal Economic Cooperation in 2002.

During its infantry period only 50 students were awarded the scholarships in various sectors and now it has reached to the number of 200 double than that of 2007 when it was 100.

The hall was filled with echo of happiness and giggles, the faces of the students present in the Kumari Hall of Hotel Annapurna was glittered with happiness and satisfaction as their dreams had came true.

"Being myself born in middle class family the economic background and the financial status is weak and we all know that the fees, the medical tuition fees of MBBS is high and it's not accessible for every family living in Nepal. This scholarship has provided us encouragement and motivation to pursue our career in medical field. I take it as a golden opportunity and milestone in my career, I will cherish this moment and respect it," one of the awardees pursuing her MBBS degree in Patan Hospital, Nepal, Nina Baidhya told ANI.

The Indian Mission in Nepal has been selecting 200 applicants on the basis of merits out of thousands every year to grant them the scholarship fostering their educational career.

"It is a huge opportunity for a student like us who belong to a middle class family. This scholarship has been awarded us with regards to our previous achievements it has provided this sort of scholarship," Kumar Dhungel another awardees pursuing his bachelor's in medicine from BPKIHS, Dharan told ANI.

Under this scholarship scheme, an MBBS student receives NRs. 4000/- per month for five years, a BE student receives NRs. 4000/- per month for four years, and a student studying in other under-graduate courses receives NRs. 3000/- per month for three years. So far more than 2150 Nepali students have benefited from the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme from across 77 districts of Nepal.

"Each of you has an important role to play in not just nurturing the relations between India and Nepal, bettering the situation in your own country but also contributing to human goal. Each of you are tremendously capacitated," Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri said addressing the students gathered.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal also felicitated the selected 200 meritorious Nepali students and presented to them Certificate of Merit for the Golden Jubilee Scholarship at the Hotel Annapurna, Kathmandu.

Foreign Secretary of Nepal H.E. Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi was the Chief Guest.

The Government of India provides a total of about 3000 scholarships in Medical, Science, Agriculture, Arts, Veterinary Sciences, Pharmacology, Computer Science, Nursing disciplines to study in Universities and Colleges in Nepal and in India. (ANI)
