Caracas [Venezuela], Sep 27 (ANI): Despite United States imposing sanctions on his wife Cilia Adela Flores de Maduro, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is headed for New York to attend the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Taking to Twitter, the Venezuelan President said that he is bringing "people's voice" with him.
"We are landing in New York to participate in the UN General Assembly. I bring with me the People's voice; I come here with lot of the Homeland's passion to stand for truth," Maduro tweeted as he boarded a plane with his wife in Caracas before heading for New York.

The Trump administration on Tuesday imposed sanctions on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's wife and three other members of his inner circle, reported CNN.
The US slapped sanctions on the inner circle of Maduro, accusing his wife Cilia, defense minister, vice president and other allies of allegedly helping the socialist leader "plunder" the wealth of the nation.
The sanctions were announced after Trump denounced Venezuelan President Maduro as responsible for driving hyperinflation, oppressive human rights violations and turning large number of Venezuelans into refugees, as per Washington Post.
"All nations of the world should resist socialism and the misery that it brings to everyone. In that spirit, we ask the nations gathered here to join us in calling for the restoration of democracy in Venezuela," President Trump said in a speech at the UNGA.
The sanctions were imposed by the Trump administration in the midst of the Venezuelan President Maduro government's crackdown on political opponents, the fall down of the country's economy and corruption that has reached into the state-run oil industry. Venezuelan President Maduro himself was imposed with sanctions in July 2017, the Washington Post reported.
The US has imposed sanctions on Venezuela's First Lady and Former Attorney General Cilia Adela Flores de Maduro, Executive Vice President Delcy Eloina Rodriguez Gomez, Minister of Communication and Information Jorge Jesus Rodriguez Gomez, and Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino Lopez. (ANI)
