COVID-19: Sri Lanka to impose lockdown in Colombo, Gampaha

The death toll from the devastating flash floods in Nepal has climbed to 1,410m while 6,145 people remain missing, according to the latest update issued by Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), as rescue, relief and recovery operations continue across the affected districts.

Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for a new two-storey Accident and Emergency Unit at the District General Hospital in Mannar, a project supported by an Indian grant of SLR 600 million, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said.

The Human Rights Council of PoJK (HRC-PoJK) has expressed serious concern over the prolonged protests and unrest in PoJK, particularly in Rawalakot and the districts of Poonch and Sudhnooti, as the continued demonstrations have now completed 100 days.

Reports of enforced disappearances continue to emerge from several districts of Balochistan, with four individuals allegedly taken into custody by Pakistani security forces in separate incidents.

The update, issued at 11:00 am on Friday, reported casualties across several districts. Chitwan recorded the highest number of deaths at 364, followed by Nawalparasi East with 228, Nawalparasi West with 222, Nuwakot with 199 and Rasuwa with 185.
