China, France calls for denuclearising of Korean peninsula

Beijing [China], Jan. 10 (ANI): China and France on Wednesday called for the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, saying that it would go a long way in achieving 'peace and stability'.

The two leaders also praised the upcoming bilateral talks between the arch-rivals North Korea and South Korea, stating that it would go a long way in achieving the goal of 'denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula'.

According to Xinhua, the consensus on the matter was reached during the talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron in Beijing.

Earlier, Jinping had said the French president Emmanuel Macron's visit to China was a 'historic moment' since he was the first foreign leader to visit China in this year and also the first European leader to visit the country as well.

The two-day visit by the French president began on January 8 and ends today evening.

During the visit, Jinping had pressed for achieving common development in the areas of the digital economy, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing industry. The Chinese president had also urged for combating terrorism, cyber crime and climate change.

North Korea has become a virtual pariah in the international community after conducting nuclear tests and launching three intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) last year. (ANI)
