Bangladesh assures help to Hindu victims, confirms Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi [India], November 12 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed that the Bangladesh authorities on Sunday assured India that compensation will be paid to those Hindus whose houses were torched over rumours that an offensive Facebook status was posted allegedly by a youth from the minority community.

In addition to this, adequate security will be provided to the victims.

Swaraj, in a tweet, said, "We have received a detailed report of Indian High Commission in Dhaka. Bangladesh authorities have assured him that compensation will be paid to affected persons to rebuild their houses and adequate security will be provided."

Over 30 houses of Hindus have been torched in Bangladesh over rumours that an offensive Facebook status was posted allegedly by a youth from the minority community.

At least 53 persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the arson attack on homes belonging to Hindus.

A three-member committee has been formed to look into the incident, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Wahiduzzaman was quoted by the Dhaka Tribune as saying.

The committee has been asked to file a report within seven days, the report said.(ANI)
