Baloch communities facing systematic repression, claims BYC leader Sabiha Baloch

Balochistan [Pakistan], August 22 (ANI): Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) central leader Sabiha Baloch has alleged that Baloch identity is increasingly being viewed as a "mark of suspicion" in the name of security, with Baloch communities across Pakistan facing systematic repression.
In a statement shared by the BYC on social media platform X, Sabiha said, "In the name of security, the Baloch identity has been turned into a mark of suspicion across the country."
She alleged that Baloch people in different parts of Pakistan, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Karachi and Balochistan, were facing continued state repression.
"Baloch civilians in Balochistan are being subjected to drone attacks and airstrikes, while Baloch communities who have lived in Karachi for generations are increasingly harassed, raided and targeted," she said.
Sabiha specifically referred to Maripur and Lyari, saying, "These and other Baloch-populated areas are facing continuous raids and operations, with many people being forcibly disappeared."
She said the BYC campaign was aimed at highlighting alleged abuses and bringing attention to families affected by enforced disappearances and persecution in Karachi.
"Our social media campaign aims to break the silence around these abuses, amplify the voices of affected families, and bring attention to enforced disappearances and persecution in Karachi," she said.
Urging people to join the campaign, Sabiha said, "The right to live is a right of every human being. End enforced disappearances. Stop using security as a justification for the persecution and destruction of the Baloch people."
Sahiba has emerged as a prominent voice on issues concerning enforced disappearances, alleged state repression and the rights of Baloch communities. Sabiha regularly speaks publicly and on social media about alleged abuses against Baloch civilians and calls for accountability and an end to enforced disappearances.
Balochistan has long faced a range of political, security and development challenges, including militant violence, enforced disappearances, allegations of human rights violations, political instability and tensions between local communities and the Pakistani state.
The region also faces concerns over limited economic opportunities, infrastructure gaps, access to education and healthcare, and disputes over the control and distribution of its vast natural resources. These issues have contributed to prolonged unrest and demands for greater political rights, accountability and local representation. (ANI)
