Malaysian meterological department, MetMalaysia, reported the quake as having a magnitude of 6.8 magnitude and stated that it was the strongest quake to hit the country in 11 years. No tsunami threat was reported. Tremors were felt across parts of Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, it said.
