Avenfield verdict: Sharif's son-in-law shifted to Rawalpindi jail

Islamabad [Pakistan], Jul 9 (ANI): Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's son-in-law Captain (retired) Muhammad Safdar, who was pronounced guilty in the Avenfield properties reference case, has been shifted to the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
Before he was moved to the prison, Safdar was presented in an accountability court in Islamabad by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials earlier in the day (Monday).
There was a heavy police presence outside the Federal Judicial Complex in Islamabad, where the court is located. Strict security measures were also in place outside the complex, Geo TV reported.
Safdar was sentenced to one year of imprisonment on July 6 in the Avenfield properties reference case.
On Sunday, Safdar was arrested and taken into custody by two high-ranking NAB officials after he appeared at a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rally in Rawalpindi.
Around 3,000 people were around the vehicle in which Safdar was travelling along with the NAB officials.
While appearing for a rally in Rawalpindi, Safdar said that he was here to court arrest among his supporters, according to Geo TV.
Meanwhile, Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz on Saturday said she and her father will return to Pakistan on July 13.
On July 6, Sharif was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of eight million pounds was slapped on him in the Avenfield reference case, while his daughter was sentenced to seven years of jail and fined two million pounds by the accountability court.
The Sharif family is now all set to challenge the verdict later in the day. (ANI)
