Another K'taka man loses life in Sri Lanka blasts

Colombo [Sri Lanka], Apr 22 (ANI): A Kannadiga identified as Hanumaiah Shivakumar is the latest Indian confirmed dead in Sri Lanka blasts which rattled the island nation on Easter Sunday, according to Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
This takes the total of Indians killed in the deadly blasts to eight.
Chief Minister Kumaraswamy had earlier said that a group of seven JDS workers from Karnataka were reported missing. They were on a tour to Sri Lanka, he had added.
Out of the seven, four workers were confirmed dead while a search was on for the rest who were identified as H ShivuKumar, A Maregowda, and H Puttaraju.
It is unclear if the latest Kannadiga to have lost his life is a JDS worker.
"Pained to learn that we lost one more Kannadiga in the #SriLankaBlasts. High Commission of India in Colombo, Sri Lanka has confirmed the death of Hanumaiah Shivakumar. The Chief Secretary is in constant touch with the consulate in Sri Lanka," he tweeted on Monday.
Kumaraswamy had earlier tweeted that a party from Karanatka was returning from Kandy to help recognise a "fifth body." "The Chief Secretary has spoken to High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka. One group from Karnataka is returning from Kandy. They will help to identify the fifth body. The @IndiainSL will provide information on the other two missing persons as soon as it is received, the CS said," he had tweeted.
The eight coordinated blasts have taken the lives of over 290 people, according to Sri Lankan police, and wounded over 500. Out of the deceased, eight people have been identified to be Indians.
In the wake of the attack, Tuesday has been declared as a national day of mourning in Sri Lanka while a national emergency was declared as well.
Investigations into the incident are currently in full swing, with the authorities having made 24 arrests in connection with the explosions, which is the worst violence Sri Lanka has seen since the end of the civil war 10 years ago. (ANI)
