After Naqeebullah, his friend found dead in Pak

Islamabad [Pakistan], Feb 25 (ANI): Aftab Mehsud, a friend of Naqeebullah Mehsud, who was killed in a fake encounter, was found dead on Friday night in Pakistan's Dera Ismail Khan (D.I. Khan) in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province.

Aftab Mehsud was an active participant of the Pashtun long march, which was initiated in the aftermath of the killing of the 27-year-old Naqeebullah Mehsud in a fake encounter by District Malir's former senior superintendent police (SSP) Rao Anwar in Karachi, reported the Pakistan Today.

Naqeebullah's killing evoked a national outcry and triggered protest rallies in several cities.

Anwar, who has gone into hiding since the incident took place, has been found guilty of extra-judicial killing in Pakistan.

According to the family, Aftab left home on Friday but did not return. Later, the police called the deceased's family to inform about the dead body.

It was also revealed that there were bullet marks on the body of the deceased, while a First Information Report (FIR) has also been registered against unidentified assailants, according to the reports.

A police official said that it was likely that the incident was a result of "honour killing" as the corpse also bore torture marks.

"If he wasn't killed for honour then someone made it look like that to divert the attention of the investigation officers," he added.

Police informed that they are also looking at the prospects of the intelligence agencies' involvement in the incident because of the victim's connection with Naqeebullah.

Rao Anwar and other officers are in the dock for killing at least four men, during what they claimed was a raid on a suspected Taliban hideout in Karachi. (ANI)
