Afghanistan approves developmental projects worth approx 99 million USD for hospitals, dams, power infra construction

Kabul [Afghanistan], August 24 (ANI): Hamdullah Fitrat, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, announced that the Procurement Commission has approved of 21 developmental projects worth 6.5 billion Afghanis (approximately valued at 99 million USD as of today) aimed at strengthening key developmental infra elements in the country.
Sharing the details in a post on X on Sunday, the Deputy Spokesperson said that during the meeting of the Procurement Commission, chaired by Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs,
34 projects were presented for approval. He also informed that the approved projects will be financed by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
As per Fitrat, following comprehensive discussions, 21 projects worth approximately 6.5 billion Afghanis were approved, and necessary amendments were endorsed for 12 projects.
Additionally, a committee was tasked with negotiating with the winning company regarding the pricing of one project and submitting a report to the Procurement Commission leadership.
According to the Deputy Spokesperson, the approved and amended projects include the reconstruction of the Manaqi Hydroelectric Dam in Kunar Province, the procurement of scanners for the customs at airports in Kabul, Herat, Nangarhar, Balkh, and Khost Provinces.
Apart from this, other approved projects include the construction of the Qadri Hospital in Helmand Province, the construction of public hospitals in Shughnan District of Badakhshan Province, Chak District of Maidan Wardak Province, and Qala-e-Zal District of Kunduz Province, as well as the implementation of several power supply and distribution projects in various provinces.

The major announcement comes after Afghanistan last week emphasised on how the focus has shifted from managing war towards strengthening diplomatic and economic relations, reconstruction and economic development, and providing public services.
The remarks were made by Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor, Charge d'Affaires at Afghanistan's Embassy in India, during the fifth anniversary of the 'Victory' Day reception in New Delhi.
"Advancing regional economic projects and supporting the private sector are clear examples of this direction," Noor said.
He also highlighted the progress of regional economic and transit initiatives, describing them as important foundations for Afghanistan's economic growth and regional connectivity.
"The implementation of long-term plans in the areas of economic growth, energy, urban development, health and infrastructure, as well as maintaining the stability and strength of the Afghan currency, demonstrates that alongside short-term measures, Afghanistan also has a clear vision for sustainable development," he said.
