Kabul [Afghanistan], Sep 5 (ANI): An investigation into the alleged distribution of fake National Identity cards has been ordered by Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani after a number of political parties claimed that fake ID cards could affect the outcome of the upcoming Parliamentary elections.
A statement issued by the Administrative Office of the President said that a delegation, led by the Attorney General's Office has been constituted to probe the distribution of the National Identity cards, Khaama Press reported.
The Afghan intelligence, the Ministry of Interior, the Independent Election Commission, the national statistics department and the population registration department comprise the delegation.
The statement further stated that the delegation has been tasked with identifying the officials who have assisted in the issuance of fake identity cards and bring them to justice. The delegation also has to prepare a thorough report and present it to the Presidential Palace.
The Grand National Coalition recently recovered thousands of fake identity cards and stickers that could potentially sabotage the transparency of the October 20 elections. (ANI)
