New Delhi [India], April 7 (ANI): Celebrated artist, poet, and diplomat Abhay K unveiled his latest art exhibition, Shunyata | Emptiness, on April 5, offering a powerful visual meditation on the Buddhist concept of Shunyata, the emptiness or absence of inherent existence.
Inspired by the profound phrase from the Heart Sutra, "Form is emptiness, and emptiness is form," the exhibition invites viewers to explore the transient nature of life through minimalist, contemplative art.

The idea, Abhay K shared, took root in a moment of quiet reflection. "It came to me while I was staring at a blank canvas," he said. "I saw forms appear and disappear, just like thoughts mirroring the impermanence of life itself." This moment sparked a series of paintings that blur the boundaries between form and void, stillness and motion.
"Shunyata is a philosophy that refers to the emptiness of independent existence," said Abhay K. during the launch. "It was imparted by Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara to Shariputra at Griddhakuta Parvat in Rajgir, located in Bihar, India. I come from this very place, and I encountered this philosophy while researching for my book Nalanda: How It Changed the World. Inspired by its deep meaning, I chose to depict it through my paintings."
Up close, his canvases are textured and vibrant, full of layered strokes, intricate lines, and recurring motifs like circular forms that resemble suns or black holes. But from a distance, the same paintings seem to dissolve into soft hues and shadows, symbolizing the constant transformation of all things. The interplay between presence and absence, form and formlessness, is at the core of the experience.
Sushmita, a visitor to the exhibition, shared her admiration: "It has been a truly beautiful experience for me. This is the second time I'm attending his exhibition. The first was in Orleans, France. I came again, this time with a friend, because I wanted her to experience what he has created."
Another visitor, Swarnim Shikha, reflected on the work's ever-changing nature: "When you look at it, it feels like a dense forest. But then again, it also resembles a magnified emerald stone. It has this formless quality when you simply observe it. As he explained, the experience changes as you move away from the painting--it appears completely different. The art begins to take on a formless essence."
Blending Eastern philosophies with elements of Western thought echoing Schopenhauer's embrace of impermanence--Abhay K's collection speaks not only to the intellect but to the soul. It gently urges viewers to go beyond observation and into presence: to feel the silence between brushstrokes, the shift between seeing and unseeing.
Through Shunyata | Emptiness, Abhay K offers more than art, he offers an experience. One that lingers long after you leave the gallery, echoing the quiet truth that everything changes, and in that change, there is profound beauty. (ANI)
